Welcome to the Growers Table! I am Christine Connell.
“Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends.” ~ Maya Angelou
Everyone has a story. The Growers Table is going to take you on a virtual trip to share the real stories of people around the world who are involved in growing and producing the food that we eat.
These are the narratives of humble people who are doing important work that is unfamiliar and usually goes unacknowledged, yet they have a critical role in the sustenance of life. The Growers Table celebrates the stories that recognize both the diversity and the commonality of our human experience, particularly through food and travel. We believe by bringing these important individuals to the forefront, we can deepen connections within our global community, inspire others to share their own stories, and ignite more empathy in our world.
Food has a powerful effect on people, and it is typically an important part of most social and holiday celebrations. We usually remember sharing an excellent meal with family and friends gathered around a table. The table is one of the most important places of human connection. Regardless of your race, ethnicity, skin color, gender or religious background we all must eat. Coming together and sharing a meal is one of the most common occurrences uniting people throughout the world.
